Academy-Award winner Angelina Jolie recently cleared the air on some issues, namely, the challenge in playing Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart, the media controversy surrounding her press interactions during the film's premier, and planned projects for the future.
Unlike some of her previous roles, Jolie knew Mariane Pearl on a personal level. She explained that her work for this film encapsulated a family's experience. And that because this family was a friend to her, it increased the pressure of portraying the role accurately.
When asked if the fact that she was probably on of the most famous people could have got in the way of promoting the film, Jolie confessed that it might have, but she would have quit the film if it had been a problem.
"I wouldn't have done the film. I would have stepped off. I believed in this, and Mariane believed that the heart of the film would surface beyond anything else," she said. Jolie's representatives ordered journalists attending a screening of A Mighty Heart in New York this week to sign a document agreeing that they would steer clear of questions about her private life.
Jolie was quizzed on the controversy generated by her representatives during the premier of "A Mighty Heart" in New York this week They ordered journalists attending the screening to sign a document agreeing that they would steer clear of questions about her private life. Did she attempt to gag the press not take the focus away from the film, which ironically is about freedom of press?
"I think the majority of the stories have been about the film. And I think that certain news outlets have decided to try to make it about other things. I'm glad it was cleared up between me and my representation. I didn't know [the agreement] was out there. It was excessive, and I'm glad it was corrected. But I know why they did it, and I appreciate what they were trying to protect. And that is it."
In regards to future plans, the actress told MTV News that she doesn't harbor fantasies about what she wishes to accomplish. She would prefer to have time with her family, travel around the world and, "be less in the public eye." Professionally speaking, she can look ahead to the film Wanted with actor James McAvoy and The Changeling with director Clint Eastwood, of whom she is a big fan.
"I'm looking forward to a film I get to do with Clint Eastwood ["The Changeling"]. It's so cool, and it's a great script. What an amazing chance to work with an amazing man, a hero of mine."
